THE VINYARD TAKES ROOT
Founded in 1994 by the Downing family, the estate was one of the first vineyards in the region. The vinyard was planted with Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in a North-South direction on vertical positioning trellis.
A STAR IS BORN
With careful viticulture, the first wines were produced in 1999. As our Vineyard continues to mature, our commitment to sustainable viticulture and winemaking practices have earned Downing Estate a reputation producing high quality, complex fruit driven wines with character.
POP THE CORK AND CELEBRATE!
Downing Estate’s 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon was crowned the “Best Cabernet in Victoria Annual Award” at the 2007 Federation Square Wine Awards. Since then, Downing Estate wines have gone on to win numerous awards and accolades.

A new team of proprietors took the reins with a profound appreciation for the region. Their international expertise evolves the already excellent wines of Downing Estate, and as a result, the brand experiences a rennaissance.
